Kairington Update

So I thought I would give a quick update on Kairington and all of her issues. So first as I said in a different post, she has an ear infection and probably RSV. Along with that she still has bad acid reflux, but is being managed very well with 2 types of medication. Also her breathing is getting a lot better, I only give her breathing treatments once in a while, when she gets wheezy. Now for the apnea, that is not getting better. She was on the sleep apnea monitor 24-7 for 2 weeks, at which time they switched out machines, so they could download the information so the Dr could look at the data and decide what to do. Well sure enough, she has been having breathing problems at night; she usually stops breathing a couple of times ever other day or so. The way they have the monitor set up it will set off an alarm after she stops breathing for 15 seconds and then it beeps for every second she doesn't breath after that. As soon as I hear the alarm, I jump up and wake her up because she doesn't wake herself up. Or maybe I am just so scared I wont let her wait that long. I mean when you think about it 15 seconds is a long time not to breath. So the Dr decided she needs to stay on the machine until she can go 2 weeks without any alarms. Well we actually were on our 3rd day when 2 nights ago, so stopped breathing 5 times in the night; and each time I let it beep 5 times, so she went 20 seconds without breathing before I wake her up. It was a long night, but I am so thankful we have the machine. It's scary to think she was doing this before we got the machine....scary! So when I took her in for her ear infection/RSV appointment on Tuesday morning, the Dr said she really should have stopped having apnea episodes at 2-3 months, so she was a little concerned. She said sometimes acid reflux can cause it and that usually stops at 4 months, so she made an appointment for March 8th for Kairington to go down to SLC to see a Pulmonary Specialist. She said that if by then she has stopped having the episodes then it was probably due to the acid reflux and we will just cancel the appointment, but if she is still having issues we will need to go and find out what is causing her to stop breathing. I am really hoping it is just the acid reflux and it will correct itself and we will be out of the woods soon with it all. For now though, she has to keep her patches on her chest everyday; the only time she can take them off is for like 5 minutes for a bath. Her skin is bright red and kind of raw where the patches are, but we don't have any other choice right now. We will keep you all posted on how the next couple of weeks go.
